Can we speak of all forms of architectural mediation at once?
What kind of place, mediated in every possible way, could gather our practices and ideas and allow us to test them through its fabric?
How can we learn from Rome – draw from it, and project back into it?
Media–Architecture Rome Forum is a five-day retreat and research gathering in collaboration with the British School at Rome. It brings together architects, artists, filmmakers, designers and curators to explore how Rome has been mediated – seen, written, filmed and reimagined – across centuries of art, publishing and cinema. Through walks, visits, discussions and evening dialogues, participants engage with the city as a living archive of mediation, bringing their own research or practice into its context, or testing work against the many ideas and sites that Rome offers as discursive space.
Based at the British School at Rome and joined by an international community, the Forum creates a setting for reflection, collaboration and renewal. We will engage with film, photography, drawing, writing and design as tools for reading and representing the city, tracing how ideas travel between disciplines and across time. You will learn directly from leading Rome-based practitioners and specialists in this small-cohort, high-impact retreat. Gathering around one large table, you will have the chance to share, map and test ideas together.
Unlike other forums, the Media–Architecture Rome Forum will focus less on talks and lectures, and more on the city itself – through walks and exploration – while discussing and developing your individual practices in relation to Rome.
This Forum is for architects, scholars, artists, designers, filmmakers, curators and researchers whose work engages – or aspires to engage – with the city of Rome as subject, medium or site of study.

His work focuses on the intersection between creative fields, predominantly the construction of space in film. He teaches at the AA and the Royal College of Art. Marko’s first feature film, titled Temptation of Influence, was developed with the support of the Royal Academy of Arts, Architecture at the Edge, British Council and Arts Council Ireland and is due to premiere in July 2025. Marko teaches film in relation to architecture at the AA with Fearghus Raftery, and their unit’s work can be seen here.
