Javier studied at ETSA Madrid and has degrees from Manchester (BA Hons), from the AA (AADip) and Granada (PhD). One year after he graduated, Javier started teaching and set up his own practice. His teaching experience has almost entirely been at the AA, but he has also taught in other schools of architecture both in the UK and USA. He is currently the Head of Environmental and Technical Studies at the AA, as well as a Diploma Tutor. He has been in private practice since 1978 as director of Castañón Associados (Madrid) until 2020 and Castanon Associates (London) until 2024. He always wants to enable students to have the benefit of these many years teaching and practicing at the same time.
