As part of the AAAAYY: same same but different exhibition with Tawanda Chiweshe and Francisco Gaspar, the AA welcomes Oana Stănescu and Benji B. Invited contributions from an extended network of collaborators and an accompanying programme of events will transform the AA Gallery into a live platform during the exhibition run, reflecting Francisco and Tawanda’s iterative, conversational and relational approach to making.
This event takes place in the AA Gallery. It has limited capacity with standing-room only.
Oana Stănescu is a Romanian-born designer, curator and educator whose work spans architecture, design and cultural production at all scales – from public infrastructure to installations, products, exhibitions and pedagogical models. Her practice is defined by a commitment to experimentation, criticality and collaboration, bringing together disciplines and voices across art, architecture, fashion and academia.
Benji B is a music curator, radio broadcaster, DJ, record producer and musical director. He has held one of the most influential radio shows in the world since the early 2000s, and his global connections span across genres and generations. Considered a key international tastemaker, Benji B has toured the world as a club DJ for 20 years. He is currently a regular fixture at Circo Loco and Manchester Warehouse Project. Benji runs the legendary Deviation club nights championing new talent, and has worked with many established recording artists including the likes of Kanye West (‘Yeezus’, ‘Life of Pablo’, and Sunday Sessions). With every project he works on, Benji B ignores dated genre boundaries and celebrates the connections between different musical worlds. Within fashion, Benji B worked with Phoebe Philo for a number of years on the Celine runway music until her final season and was the music director for Louis Vuitton Mens during Virgil Abloh’s tenure. Most recently, Benji B has been music director for Burberry and Jil Sander.
Ramp access to the AA Gallery is available on request using the intercom at the entrance to 33 Bedford Square. Please get in touch to let us know of any access requirements that you might have and how we can best accommodate these by emailing publicprogramme@aaschool.ac.uk.
