Head of the AA Emergent Technologies and Design (EmTech) programme Milad Showkatbakhsh and programme founder Michael Weinstock have written an article for the Architectural Design’s current issue, Biodesign in Architecture. The issue has been guest edited by Rachel Armstrong and Richard Beckett and traces the evolution of biodesign, arguing that architecture is undergoing a reorientation towards living systems. In their article titled From Genome to G-Code: Bio-Intelligence in Emergent Architecture, Milad and Michael examine the evolving discourse of biodesign through the pedagogical lens of applied research through EmTech. The article provides a critical overview of the programme’s experimental methodology and showcases a selection of recently completed research projects developed within the studio over the past several years.
