Aude-Line Duliere interviewed on her research into the supply chain of the film industry

Aude-Line Duliere, tutor of Salvage (Diploma 18) has given an interview about her research into the supply chain of the film industry. Duliere’s research is supported by the Wheelwright Prize, which she won in 2018. Duliere’s research has uncovered the fast paced construction practices of the film industry, which she sees as a potential avenue for change, as well as a cause for concern:

"The industry has the potential to be a pioneer in better practice because it moves so quickly. It’s a fast cycle of making and unmaking. It’s very exposed. It’s global. It’s a culture industry. It’s very fertile ground for the dissemination of new practices."

After spending time on several film sets, Duliere is seeking to transfer the lessons she has learnt across the industry, advocating for better practice by assisting film production companies to improve their record on recycling and sustainably using materials. Duliere’s research is connected to her teaching on Salvage: Exploring, Designing and Building with Reused Materials (Diploma 18), which asks the question ‘How can architects take responsibility not only for the process of adding to the world’s built fabric, but also for the subtraction, processing, transport and storage of material implied by any given design?’
