The Journal of Architecture special issue on Gabriele Basilico
Date: Wednesday 11 March 2020
Venue: AA Bookshop
This special issue of the Journal of Architecture explores the work of photographer Gabriele Basilico (1944-2013). An architect by training, he spent over thirty years consistently documenting the city space both in his native Italy and abroad and is remembered as one of the most important photographers of the built environment. Voices of established academics and emerging scholars come together in this issue to explore the photographer’s understanding of space, as well as his visual language, myriad influences, photobook practice, and gaze on the city. The authors and contributors reassess Basilico’s work from various perspectives and offer new, significant insights into his work in response to the general polemics of contemporary discourses on representations of urban space.
All lectures are open to members of the public, staff and students unless otherwise stated.
