Santiago Emergent Ecologies Ideas Competition - Call For Entries

Santiago Emergent Ecologies is an International ideas competition for the design of a new park in Santiago de Chile, a metropolitan park that can experiment with productive landscapes as a medium to establish an active relationship with the environment while protecting biodiversity in the area of the El Roble Ecological Conservation Site.

Notice is hereby given that an Ordinary General Meeting of the Registered Members (“Council”) of the Architectural Association, Inc. will be held at 32 Bedford Square, First Floor Back, London, WC1 on Monday, 6 June 2016 at 6:30 p.m. to transact the following business:


1) The Council shall delegate signatory authority powers with regard to the existing
banking facilities for AA (Inc.) as follows:

  • "B" signatories for amounts up to £9,999.99 (or equivalent) to paid members of staff (to be named at the table); and
  • "A" signatories for amounts of £10,000 (or equivalent) or more to paid members of staff and members of Council (to be named at the table).

2) The Council shall appoint a Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee (to be named at the table).

A member entitled to attend and vote at the meeting convened by this notice is entitled to appoint a proxy to exercise his/her rights to attend, speak and vote at the meeting. In accordance with Article 31 of the Articles of Association, no person shall be appointed a proxy except a Registered Member. The instrument appointing a proxy shall be deposited at the registered office of the Association not less than three hours before the time for holding the meeting or adjourned meeting, as the case may be, at which the person named in such instrument proposed to vote. The appointment of a proxy does not preclude a member from subsequently attending and voting at the meeting in person if s/he so wishes.

-Excellent design, 3d modelling and presentation skills
-Fluency in spoken English

Good Grasshopper skills would be advantageous

Renzo Piano Building Workshop Internship Genoa - 2016-17

Deadline for Applications Tuesday 31 May 5pm

Internship applications are now being accepted for the Renzo Piano Building Workshop. One internship will be filled by a 2016 AA Diploma graduate (Part 2). The internship includes a €8,500 scholarship paid by the Foundation at the outset of a six-month internship in the Genoa office.

Current fifth year students interested in applying and with permission to work in the EU should submit their application pack – including a sample A4 portfolio of student work and a statement on why/how interests would be furthered by experience in the workshop – to the Director’s Office no later than 5pm on Tuesday 31 May. All applicants should be prepared to begin the six-month internship in Genoa on 1 September 2016.

Result of the Election of Officers and Council 2016/2017

As previously reported, there were seven vacancies among the ordinary membership of Council, with thirteen candidates competing for those vacancies. For the first time in at least 10 years, the elections resulted in a tie for one of those vacancies. In accordance with the AA’s by-laws, a vote of the members in attendance at the 9 May 2016 Ordinary General Meeting was taken, resulting in the confirmed election of Victoria Thornton to the AA Council.

The Architectural Association receives Taught Degree Awarding Powers by the Lords of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

The Architectural Association (AA), the oldest independent school of architecture in the United Kingdom, is pleased to announce that it has been granted the power to award its own degrees. As of 1 October 2019, the AA has the right to establish new academic programmes and degree awards and is working to create some of the world’s most pioneering courses in architecture to shape and build the future.

Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAP) give UK higher education institutions the right to award bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Prospective students worldwide can apply to the AA Foundation Course (Foundation Diploma), Experimental Programme BA(Hons), Diploma Programme (MArch), and nine taught postgraduate programmes encompassing History and Critical Thinking in Architecture (MA), Projective Cities (Taught MPhil) and Sustainable Environmental Design (MSc/MArch), amongst others.

AA Director, Eva Franch said, ‘since our founding in 1847 we have never ceased to create new horizons, institutionally and academically. This is a significant milestone for the AA and demonstrates how we have grown and progressed as an institution that has always valued independence. Receiving TDAP marks a new era for our institution; these are exciting times for the AA. The process has required considerable work from all members of staff and students. I would like to take this opportunity to credit them for this major achievement’.

President of the AA Council, Victoria Thornton added, ‘the TDAP process has recognised our strong governance, academic standards, scholarship and teaching as well as the environment supporting the delivery of taught higher education programmes’.

The School’s application for Taught Degree Awarding Powers was supported by the Architects Registration Board, the Royal Institute of British Architects and The Open University.
