t-sa forum Vol. 7 : Renewal - Structure

Series: Book Launch
Date: Wednesday 13 September 2017
Time: 18:30
Venue: Front Members' Room
Running time: 0 mins

t-sa forum is a summer workshop run by Takero Shimazaki Architects and exists as an opportunity for the practice's team to get involved in teaching and for the participating students to research with the practice - aiming to bridge the gap between academia and practice. The workshop was started in 2006 as an experiment and last year marked it's tenth anniversary.

Following the research from the 2016 t-sa forum on ‘Refurbishment’ by exploring ‘Structures’ as surviving entities in a city, the investigation has continued to research the process of renewal in London, insisting upon the possibility for architecture to be a catalyst for renewal of the urban environment.

The investigation focused on four renewal projects which have performed as urban magnets in their respective locations; Christ Church Spitalfields, National Theatre, Royal College of Physicians and Tate Modern.

The research was carried out through photography, text, drawing and low-tech printing with accompanying workshops on each technique. The t-sa forum approached the research as a design process in a research studio.
