New designs, old ideas, reincarnations, revisions and starting over. Donald Bates is a founding Director of LAB Architecture Studio. After a long-term relationship with the AA, Bates and Peter Davidson founded LAB in 1994. In 1997 LAB won the Federation Square Design Competition, Melbourne. Relocating to Australia, the next five years were spent in completing the design and construction of this award-winning cultural and urban complex. LAB currently has offices in Melbourne, London, Dubai and Shanghai, with the majority of their work in China and the Middle East. Donald Bates remains connected to architectural education with lectures, workshops and limited teaching.


All lectures are open to members of the public, staff and students unless otherwise stated.
