AA Building Conservation
Assessments
Diplomas are awarded mainly on the basis of the following pieces of work being satisfactorily completed:

• An essay on historic building materials (1,000 words)
• An essay on a medieval church restored in the nineteenth century (5,000 words)
• A structural Movement exercise (1,000 words)
• A Damp Exercise (1,000 words)
• A Conservation Management Plan & Statements (1,000 words)
• The quinquennial inspection of a church (1,500 words)

A specification for the repair of an element of a chosen building
• A thesis of about 15,000 words on an agreed topic relating to building conservation, with original research.

In addition, candidates' attendance and contributions to the seminars will also form part of the continuous assessment process, and participants are encouraged to exchange work experience.
