ALSOP, Will

Various Crossings

Date: 29/10/1996
Time: 00:00:00
Venue:
Running time: 98 mins

On graduating from the AA, Will Alsop spent several formative years in the office of Cedric Price before setting up his own practice in 1979. He formed partnerships with John Lyall in 1981 and with the German architect Jan Stormer in 1989 - a move which strengthened the close links with Europe that Alsop had forged through collaborative work with Jean Nouvel and others. Alsop and Stormers Hamburg ferry terminal was completed in 1991, a year after the practice won the Hotel du Departement competition in Marseilles. This lecture includes a discussion of Alsops proposal for the partially dismantled Blackfriars Bridge, designed to accommodate a new site for the ICA (as part of the Living Bridges exhibition shown at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1996). NB: Cuts out during Q & A.
