The exhibition offers a close comparative reading of the design process within four housing projects by James Gowan (1923–2015) and Álvaro Siza (b. 1933). Particular reference is made to the specific architectural problems that confronted both architects when addressing the typologies of stacked maisonettes and terraced houses in the decades after 1963. Gowan is represented by his designs for Greenwich and East Hanningfield, and Siza by Bouça, Porto and Vila Viçosa in the Alentejo.
