AALV Fall 2012: Designing Desire
Designing Desire will make hedonistic ‘desire’ the catalyst for ‘design’. Sensations have particular formal characteristics, including presence, balance, refinement, surface and opulence. Designing Desire will create a series of design ‘species’ from these, each of which will express explicit experiences, aesthetics and ergonomics. It will also do this through exchanges with other disciplines: tourism, biology, chemistry, fashion, landscape, etc.
Inspired by our collaboration with Louis Vuitton the AA Visiting School Paris will be organized in three stages:
- PREPARATION AND CONCEPT_ Stage 1 October 24- October 25
Teams will dissect 4 topics and extrapolate a clear statement for each one (team manifesto).
- DESIGN_ Stage 2 October 26- October 30
The 2 strongest statements from Stage 1 will be developed by two larger teams comprising AA and international students, AA Tutors and LV Mentors into a series of design-based studies in 2D and 3D.
- PRODUCTION AND COMPILATION_ Stage 3 October 31- November 3
All AALV participants will work collectively to produce zoom-in details and digital tests towards final physical execution.
Rather than trying to research and define shopping trends AALV will foster authenticity by materializing unexpected spatial constructions via performance, material, form, structure and matter.
The deadline for applications is 22 October 2012. Application forms and additional information are available online at: www.aaschool.ac.uk/paris and applications can be submitted to: email@example.com. All participants travelling from abroad are responsible for securing any visa required for entry to France, and are advised to contact their home embassy early. After payment of fees, the AA School can provide a letter confirming participation in the workshop.
The AA Visiting School requires a fee of £695 per participant, which includes a £60 Visiting Student Membership, payable online at: www.aaschool.ac.uk/paris. Fees do not include flights or accommodation, but accommodation options can be advised. Students need to bring their own laptops, digital equipment and modelmaking tools. Please ensure this equipment is covered by your own insurance as the AA takes no responsibility for items lost or stolen at the workshop.
The workshop is open to current architecture and fashion design students, PhD candidates and young professionals in fashion and architecture.
