RIBA NORMAN FOSTER TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP 2017
The RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship, supported by Lord Foster and Foster + Partners, offers one travelling scholarship of £7,000 to a student of architecture to support international research on a topic and at locations of the student’s choosing. One AA student will be nominated for the award and will then be put forward for consideration by the RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship award jury.

Submission Requirements

  • One completed application form signed by the student available at www.architecture.com/fosterscholarship
  • One A1 ‘poster’ presented as a pdf file detailing the proposal (topic, objective, locations). 
  • Applicants are restricted to 500 words for the poster submission and the file size should not exceed 5 MB. Applicants that exceed these limits may jeopardise their chances of success.
  • Applicants may also submit video submissions as additional supporting material with a maximum duration of 2 minutes. 
  • The topic of the research should relate to the survival of our cities and towns and fall under one of the following themes: learning from the past to inform the future; the future of society; density of settlements; sustainability; use of resources; quality of urban life; transport. 

Eligibility
Students must be enrolled in an RIBA or CAA validated degree programmes or in a programme from a specially invited school or architecture centre and have successfully completed at least the first year of a Part 1 degree.

KOHN PEDERSEN FOX TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP 2017
Each year, Kohn Pedersen Fox presents three $10,000 awards to students who are in their penultimate year at one of the 26 design schools with whom KPF has chosen to partner. The goal of the award is to allow students to broaden their education through a summer of travel before their final year at school. Two AA students will be nominated for the award by and will then be put forward for consideration by the KPF Travelling Fellowship award jury. 

 Submission Requirements

  • A portfolio of 15 one-sided pages at 11” x 17” or smaller, in a binding.
  • All design work should be executed by the student alone. No work executed in an office - unless it has been designed and drawn solely by the student - should be included. 
  • The first page will be a one-sided 8.5” x 11” sheet with the applicant’s name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, school attending and signature of the director, and signature of the applicant indicating permission for display/publication of portfolio and subsequent travel report images on the KPF website. This page should contain a statement of the student’s travel itinerary and the rationale for these travel plans. It should be easily detachable and should be the only page with any personal or identifiable information about the applicant.

Eligibility
Students in the penultimate year at the AA are eligible. Students may be in either a Bachelor of Architecture or a Master of Architecture degree program. The application is made by the student but must be approved by the director of the School, who may nominate two students from the class.
