EmTech Workshop

Monday 22 to Friday 26 February

EmTech is collaborating with the Institute for Computational Design in Stuttgart on a timber footbridge project that will connect the courtyard façade of 16 Morwell Street to 36 Bedford Square. Design development and detail design begins with a visit from Achim Menges, Moritz Fleischmann and students from ICD Stuttgart. This workshop will concentrate on design development integrated with CNC fabrication and production parameters. Expert consultancy will be provided by Fabian Scheurer from Design to Production, Buro Happold Structural Engineers, and Unto This Last.

Nominations sought for Honorary AA Membership

Nominations Procedure

The By-Laws of the Architectural Association, Inc. include the following provision:
The Council may elect as Honorary Members, illustrious or distinguished persons, as from time to time they may determine, without subscription. These shall have the same rights as Members, and shall be limited in number to one hundred. (By-Law 13).

Persons nominated for the award of Honorary Membership should meet one of the following two criteria:

– Outstanding contribution to the work and development of the Architectural Association
– Outstanding contribution to architectural education, the architectural profession or associated arts in areas of particular relevance to the purposes and interests of the Architectural Association

 

Nomination procedure

Nominations for Honorary Membership may come from any member of the Architectural Association, and should be seconded by another member; nominees are not required to hold membership of the Architectural Association.  It is suggested that nominations are supported by biographical information, personal testimonies, letters of support, etc.

Nominations and supporting material should be sent via post to: The Secretary to the Architectural Association, The Architectural Association, 36 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3ES.          

Nominations will also be accepted via email, providing that the nominations form and all supporting materials are also delivered electronically. These may be sent to: secretary@aaschool.ac.uk

Selection of Honorary Members is made twice yearly by the General Purposes Committee of the AA Council.  The Committee recommends its selection to Council for review and approval. Once selected and approved, Honorary Members are contacted to confirm their acceptance.  Until this point, nominations are strictly confidential.  Only the names of those who have confirmed acceptance will be disclosed.

Changes to AA Constitution

As a result of changes introduced by the Companies Act 2006 and recommendations of the Charity Commission, the AA Council has resolved to update certain provisions and references in its Memorandum and Articles of Association. Amendments to the Architectural Association’s governing documents were approved in draft in November 2009 by the Charity Commission and BERR (now BIS), and ratified by the
AA Council at its Annual General Meeting on 7 December 2009.
