AA PhD Open Seminar Tuesday 18 May
AA PhD Open Seminar is a half-day event organised by students of the PhD Programme at the Architectural Association. PhD candidates will be presenting work in progress to be discussed with Marina Lathouri and other critics and is open to the AA community. Presenting Students: Ivonne Santoyo, The Rise of Housing. Architecture’s Relation to Liberalism; Alejandra Celedon, Beyond the Modernist Plan: The beginning of the end of planning; Winyu Ardrugsa, The Prayer and the Metropolis: Subject Formations and Spatial Negotiations of the Muslims in Bangkok; and Nerma Cridge, 4th Drawing a series: ‘Infinitely Changeable Original / The Unbuildable and Authorship.

Casting Creativity Casting Creativity is an ideas competition for young creative individuals and companies. Casting Creativity aims to establish an exchange platform for cross-border and cross-cultural business co-operation. The competition invites submissions on a single A3 sheet outlining ideas within the fields of: Future, Businesses, Communication, Risk and Technology. Fifteen selected entrants will present their ideas within the five different categories to a jury in a Pecha Kucha format. One entry from each category will then be invited to take part in the international C’n’B Creative Businesses Convention in Germany in June. Casting Creativity takes place in the frame of the AAIS exhibition ‘Seed to Scene (S2S)’, from 18–31 May, at 1–5 Dryden Street, London WC2. Apply now for 2010 Nicholas Boas Scholarship
Established in memory of former AA student Nicholas Boas (1975–1998), this travel scholarship allows AA students to spend three weeks in Rome in July. The recipients will be based at the British School at Rome, where generations of artists and scholars have researched the history, art and architecture of Italy. Expenses for the trip are generously taken care of by the Nicholas Boas Trust. Any current AA registered student may apply by submitting a short written paragraph stating why they wish to travel to Rome and what interest they intend to pursue there.
The deadline for applications is Friday 7 May. Applicants must give their name, address, telephone number and email address and may be posted, handed in to AA Reception or emailed to Belinda Flaherty at belinda@aaschool.ac.uk. For further information, please contact Belinda Flaherty.
