Visiting Teachers

The AA attracts the interest of academic visitors from all over the world because of its innovative teaching tradition. As a response to this interest we offer a short programme to give teachers of architecture an opportunity to take part in discussions about the teaching and research of the School and about the goals and strategies of teaching architecture.

The programme offers access to the teaching, review and assessment activities throughout the School, and the opportunity for detailed discussion of ideas and methods of education. Involvement in the culture of the School through lectures, seminars, activities and exhibitions is encouraged. Visits are also organised to important examples of architecture and planning in London, a city that offers a rich historical and contemporary record. The programme is open to applicants who are currently teaching architecture or related subjects, and it will run from 4 to 22 June 2007.

Applicants will be selected on the basis of a short written proposal, which should include a statement of their teaching and research experience, with an outline of the issues of architectural education that are of particular interest to them. Applications, including a curriculum vitae, should be submitted as soon as possible, and by 1 March at the latest. There is no fee for the programme.

All enquiries and applications should be addressed to:

Nicholas Boas Scholarship: Application deadline Friday 15 May

This travel scholarship, established in memory of former AA student Nicholas Boas (1975–1998) allows AA students to spend three weeks in Rome in July. The recipients will be based at the British School at Rome, where generations of artists and scholars have researched the history, art and architecture of Italy. The Nicholas Boas Trust covers all expenses for the trip and any current AA-registered student may apply by submitting a short paragraph stating why they wish to travel to Rome and what interest they intend to pursue there.
The successful candidate is expected to produce a small body of work as a result of their visit – sketches, photographs or the basis of a project.

The deadline for applications is Friday 15 May at 1.00. Applications may be posted to the AA, marked for the attention of Belinda Flaherty or emailed to belinda@aaschool.ac.uk and must include the applicant’s name, address, phone number and email address.
