AA Members’ Event
Design Museum Previews On Tuesday 30 March at 7.00 AA Members can enjoy an exclusive preview at the Design Museum of David Adjaye’s photographic journey ‘Urban Africa’ and ‘Sustainable Futures – can design make a difference?’ The exhibitions will be introduced by David Adjaye and Deyan Sudjic, the Director of the Design Museum. David Adjaye’s collection of photographs is a personal quest through the eyes of an architect to address the scant knowledge of the built environment of the African continent. Capturing the salient features of Africa’s cities including suburban settlements, unofficial developments and townscapes, these photographs examine the buildings and places that resonate with Adjaye’s preoccupations as an architect. The photographs are set against a backdrop of African music specially composed for the exhibition by Peter Adjaye. This detailed survey documents the nature of urban life in a developing continent, a unique geo-cultural survey profiling the African city in a global context. ‘Sustainable Futures’ showcases a range of design and architecture projects that explore the most important issues associated with sustainability. Celebrated through a selection of pioneering design approaches, this exhibition places sustainable design centre stage, focusing on how design can make a positive contribution towards a more sustainable future. Both exhibitions are open to the public from 31 March to 5 September. Time: 7.00 Tickets are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
